Communities In Schools of Houston’s Executive Director Cynthia Clay Briggs has been selected as an Outstanding Nonprofit Business Leader for Houston Business Journal’s 2017 Women Who Mean Business Awards.
According to the Houston Business Journal, they selected the city’s most successful women business leaders in ten categories across multiple industries in Houston. The Women Who Mean Business Awards dinner will be held on Oct. 26 from 6 to 9 pm at the Marriott Marquis, where honorees will accept an award on stage.
Cynthia Clay Briggs has been with Communities In Schools of Houston, Inc. (CIS) since its inception in 1979. Serving as the organization’s first CIS Social Worker at M.C. Williams Middle School in the Acres Home Community, Cynthia was named CIS Executive Director in 1989. Under Cynthia’s leadership CIS has grown from serving seven schools in 1989 to serving 133 campuses throughout Ft. Bend and Harris County. Thanks to Cynthia’s vision, 111,285 students were served by CIS last year; 98% of CIS case managed students stayed in school.
