As we start a new school year, let us take a moment to reflect upon CIS of Houston’s mission, which is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
“The biggest way CIS and Mr. Rene Gonzalez helped me was in school, with family issues, and even relationship issues with my girlfriend. Mr. Rene Gonzalez supported me through every step of the way through my high school years from freshman to my senior year. He not only helped me, but he also assisted my two older sisters that attended Milby and went through the CIS program. My family is forever grateful for all that he has done for us, and for supporting us through thick and thin. He listens to everyone’s problems, and somehow he does his best to help all of us find solutions. This summer, I hope to get a job through the CIS Summer Employment Program and start getting real life job experience. After the summer, I will be going to University of Houston Downtown to do basic studies and raise my GPA for two semesters. Then I plan to transfer to University of Houston Main Campus and study Industrial Design. I couldn’t have done this without CIS and Mr. Rene Gonzalez. He has become such an important figure in my life, and he still pushes me to do my very best no matter what.”
